Prayer For Padre Pio's Intercession
Gracious God, You generously blessed Your servant, Padre Pio, with the gifts of the
spirit. You marked his body with the five wounds of Christ Crucified, as a powerful witness to the
saving Passion and Death of Your Son, and as stirring inspiration to many people of Your infinite mercy,
forgiveness, and love.
In the confessional, Padre Pio labored endlessly for the salvation of souls. Through
his prayerful intercession, many who suffered were healed of sickness and disease.
Endowed with the gift of discernment, he could read people's hearts. From the blood
of his wounds came a perfumed fragrance, a special sign of Your Holy Presence. With dignity and intense
devotion, he celebrated daily Mass, inviting countless men and women to greater union with Jesus Christ,
in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist,
Through the intercession of Padre Pio, I confidently beseech You to grant to me the
grace of (here state your petition). Help me to imitate his example of prayerful holiness
and compassion, so that I, too, may faithfully follow the Risen Lord, and one day rejoice in the
Kingdom, where You live and reign forever and ever, AMEN.

Prayer of St. Pio of Pietrelcina
Stay with me, Lord, for it is necessary to have You present so that I do not forget
You. You know how easily I abandon You.
Stay with me, Lord, because I am weak and I need Your strength, that I may not fall so often.
Stay with me, Lord, for You are my life, and without You, I am without meaning and hope.
Stay with me, Lord, for You are my light, and without You, I am in darkness.
Stay with me, Lord, to show me Your will.
Stay with me, Lord, so that I can hear Your voice and follow You.
Stay with me, Lord, for I desire to love You ever more, and to be always in Your company.
Stay with me, Lord, if You wish me to be always faithful to You.
Stay with me, Lord, for as poor as my soul is, I wish it to be a place of consolation for You, a
dwelling of Your love.
Stay with me, Jesus, for it is getting late; the days are coming to a close and life is passing. Death,
judgment and eternity are drawing near. It is necessary to renew my strength, so that I will not stop
along the way, and for that I need You. It is getting late and death approaches.
Stay with me, Jesus, because in the darkness of this life, with all its dangers, I need You. I
fear the darkness, the temptations, the dryness, the cross, the sorrows. 0 how I need you, my Jesus, in
this night of exile!
Stay with me, Jesus. Help me to recognize You as Your disciples did at the Breaking of the Bread, so
that the Eucharistic Communion be the light which disperses the darkness, the power which sustains me,
the unique joy of my heart.
Stay with me, Lord, because at the hour of my death I want to be one with You, and if not by Communion,
at least by Your grace and love.
Stay with me, Jesus. I do not ask for divine consolations because I do not deserve them, but I only ask
for the gift of Your Presence. Oh yes! I ask this of You!
Stay with me, Lord, for I seek You alone, Your Love, Your Grace, Your Will, Your Heart, Your Spirit,
because I love You and I ask for no other reward but to love You more and more, with a strong and active
love.
Grant that I may love You with all my heart while on earth, so that I can continue to love You perfectly
throughout all eternity, dear Jesus.
Amen!

Life of Padre Pio
Padre Pio was born the son of simple, hardworking farming people on
May 25, 1887, in Pietrelcina, southern Italy. Named Francesco, in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, he was
one of eight children of Grazio and Maria Forgione. Francesco was very devout even as a child, and at an
early age felt drawn to the priesthood. He was tutored privately until his entry to the novitiate of the
Capuchin Friars at the age of 15. Of feeble health but strong will, with the help of grace he completed
the required studies and was ordained a priest in 1910.
On September 20, 1918, Padre Pio was kneeling in front of a large
crucifix when the five wounds of our Lord's passion appeared on his body. The doctor who examined Padre
Pio could not find any natural cause for the wounds. Upon his death in 1968, the wounds were no longer
visible. In fact, there was no scaring and the skin was completely renewed. He had predicted 50 years
prior that upon his death the wounds would heal. Countless persons were attracted to his
confessional and many more received his saintly counsel and spiritual guidance through correspondence.
His whole life was marked by long hours of prayer and continual
austerity. His letters to his spiritual directors reveal the ineffable sufferings, physical and
spiritual, which accompanied him all through his life. They also reveal his deep union with God, his
burning love for the Blessed Eucharist and Our Blessed Lady. Padre Pio had the ability to read the
hearts of the penitents who flocked to him for confession which he heard for ten or twelve hours per
day. Padre Pio used the confessional to bring both sinners and devout souls closer to God; he would know
just the right word of counsel or encouragement that was needed.
Worn out by over half a century of intense suffering and constant
apostolic activity in San Giovanni Rotondo, Padre Pio was called to his heavenly reward on September 23,
1968. After a public funeral which attracted over 100,000 mourners, his body was entombed in the crypt
of Our Lady of Grace Church. Increasing numbers flock to his tomb from all parts of the world and many
testify to the spiritual and temporal graces received.
On the 16th of February, 1973, the Archbishop of Manfredonia, Msgr.
Valentino Vailati, consigned the documentation to the Sacred Congregation of the Causes of Saints so as
to obtain the "nihil obstat" for the beginning of the process of his Beatification.
Beatification
On May 2, 1999, Padre Pio was raised to "Blessed".
The Beatification ceremonies in Rome, Italy were host to more than one million pilgrims. Here in the
USA, Our Lady of Grace Chapel & Padre Pio Spirituality Centre (the NCFPP) were host to over 20,000
pilgrims from as far away as California, Canada and Guam.
Canonization
Pope John Paul II canonized Padre Pio of Pietrelcina a Saint on June
16, 2002 in one of the largest attended liturgies ever in the Vatican's history. The Pope remarked that
Padre Pio's spirituality and suffering are a valuable model for modern times. The Pope reemphasized his
message at the end of the canonization liturgy by announcing Padre Pio's feast day, September 23rd, is
an "obligatory memorial" in the church's general liturgical calendar.
